Artist’s Statement
I draw and paint because I love to. Delving into the unknown of creating, I learn things about myself, art, and the world. After being inspired by so many other artists and their work, I strive to create work that inspires others.
My inspiration comes from many sources including classic and modern art, spirituality, philosophy, nature, fantasy, mythology, life, and my Faith as a Unitarian Universalist.
Even though I create with these themes in mind, my intended meaning is not as important to me as the interpretation of the viewer. If asked I’ll be happy to explain any piece, but I find that people usually see what they need to see.
I use many different mediums, but currently I work mostly with Watercolor. Watercolor can be very unpredictable but that’s part of what I like about it. A huge part of my painting process lies in striking a balance between planned, skilled executions and more spontaneous, intuitive mark-making… something that can be easily achieved using watercolor.
